My name is Derek Ciaruffoli and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Pennsylvania. I have been working in the mental health and substance abuse fields since 2007. I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology with a minor in Criminal Justice at the University of Scranton in 2007. I then completed a Master's Degree program in Community Counseling at the University of Scranton in 2011. I obtained Pennsylvania Professional Counselor licensure in 2016.
I practice mainly from a person-centered approach, which means that the therapeutic relationship plays an important role in the healing process. I also utilize Existential, Cognitive-Behavioral, Jungian, and Freudian techniques in therapy. My role in therapy is to assist you to discover the solutions to your own problems. This means that my primary focus is not dispensing advice, but providing a safe, nonjudgmental atmosphere for you to explore the difficulties you are facing that relate to your past, present, and future.
For individuals who would like to explore spiritual aspects of their lives, I can assist in your journey. Regardless of your religion or belief systems, finding meaning to life can be a challenge. From Christianity to Buddhism, the wisdom taught through the ages can help give us direction towards the type of life we want to live: a life worth living.
